Should I use tool nose compensation?

I'm trying to program a V-groove with rounded edges on a part using an Okuma OSP5020L. I'm using a Walter RCMT120400 full-radius insert, but I keep running into alarms and issues with cutter compensation (G41/G42).

I think I should use TNC instead. Is that right? I've heard using something like P8 is the way to go. If so, would I need two tool offsets, one for each side of the tool? Any tips?
 
Yep, using TNC with P8 is spot-on for those full-radius inserts. Just remember to set up two offsets, one for each cutting edge, so you don't get those comp alarms popping up. Keep your tool paths smooth and try not to make any sudden direction switches
 
Switching to TNC style programming can help with full radius tools like that. With a radius insert, you usually need two offsets if you're cutting both sides of the groove one per approach direction, though your corner radius should match the insert and check the cutter comp settings; that's usually what trips up the OSP
 
Full-radius inserts, unlike standard turning tools, lack a clear cutting edge, making it tough for the control to properly compensate. G41/G42 assumes a straight edge offset, but the contact shifts with a round insert based on the approach and depth

It corrects for the radius of the tool tip, ensuring the programmed path matches the actual machined geometry. Without TNC, parts can show dimensional errors, especially on angles and curves. Use it whenever precision matters or when switching between tools with different nose radii.
