Servo motor won't start

I've run into a snag with one of my CNC machines, the servo just won't start up. Power to the system looks good, connections seem fine, but the motor itself refuses to kick in. Has anyone dealt with servo issues, where's the best place to start? Is it usually a wiring/signal problem, an encoder fault, or something in the drive setup that can lock a servo out without throwing an error?

Usually, when a servo wont start but power and connections look fine, its often a signal or drive setup issue rather than the motor itself. I suggest you start by checking that the drive is properly configured, the enable signal is active and any safety interlocks aren't engaged. After that, verify the encoder feedback and wiring, faulty or disconnected feedback can prevent the servo from spinning even without throwing an error

@loganishere you know, even without an error, the encoder is a huge suspect.
The drive needs a position signal from the encoder to know where it is before it can even attempt to start.
If there's a loose pin on the connector, a damaged cable, or a faulty power supply to the encoder itself, the drive will never get the signal it needs to know where it is.
It won't throw a fault because it doesn't even know it's supposed to be there yet. You need to check the power and signal wires on the encoder cable

When a CNC servo won't start and throws no errors, it's rarely wiring, it's the drive logic locking you out. Until you dig into parameters or firmware, you'll chase ghosts
