Is offline CAM still faster for hobby work?

I’ve been dabbling with Fusion 360 again this month, trying to make better use of the cloud features. Honestly, I’m torn. The idea of syncing my CAM setups between my desktop and laptop sounds great, but real-world performance? Not so much. I’ve had a few slowdowns and random sync hiccups, especially when my home internet gets spotty like which isn’t rare out here in Texas. for hobby work, it’s convenient being able to jump between projects without carrying files around, but when toolpaths lag or the software freezes mid-upload, it kills the flow. Curious if anyone else working solo or in small shops feels the same way. Does cloud CAM actually make your workflow easier, or is local storage still king?

Fusion 360 is inherently cloud based, it has a lot of advanced features and benefits. and the local centric workflow is great too, particularly for those with less stable internet. local storage still reigns supreme for speed and reliability

for hobby setups, offline still wins. Cloud syncing sounds nice until your internet chokes mid-save and you lose half a setup. Local storage just feels snappier and more reliable, especially if you’re not collaborating. The cloud’s great for backup, not so much for day-to-day toolpath work.

I like the idea of cloud CAM, but every time Fusion hangs waiting for an upload, it completely kills my rhythm. When I’m only trying to knock out a fixture plate or trim piece after work, I don’t want to babysit sync icons. I save everything locally and only push stuff to the cloud when I need to show someone.

Cloud features look great on paper, but local CAM still wins in pure speed for most small setups, especially if the connection is spotty. Fusion’s sync can help with organization, but it definitely introduces a few “hurry up and wait” moments. Do you switch devices often, or is the laptop mostly for quick edits?
