Closing the shop early this New Year’s Eve

I wrapped things up a little earlier today and decided to keep the shop closed for New Year’s Eve. After a long year of setups, deadlines, and chasing tolerances, it felt right to shut everything down cleanly and start fresh next week.

Plan tonight is simple. Dinner at home, maybe a drink, and zero chips flying around. I already caught myself thinking about jobs lined up for January, but I’m trying to leave that for future me.

Curious how everyone else is handling it. Shop still running, half day only, or fully shut down until 2026?

Zero chips flying around is a beautiful sentence. Future you can deal with January setups. Did you at least get the shop cleaned up before calling it?

Half day for me. I’ll do the easy stuff and then call it before I start a job that turns into a whole thing. In CNC machining, I’ve learned if I’m rushing on a holiday, that’s when mistakes happen and the machine creates an expensive souvenir. Enjoy the no chips night.
