Anyone else doing pre-winter maintenance on automation setups?

I’m starting to go through our end-of-year checklist and realized we haven’t done any preventive maintenance on the automation setups yet. The CNCs are getting their usual attention, but I’m wondering if anyone here does anything extra before winter downtime. Do you shut everything off completely or keep certain machines running just to keep things from sticking?

It gets pretty cold here in Iowa once winter sets in, and the shop temperature swings can get rough on bearings and drives. I’m just trying to avoid moisture buildup or any surprises when we start things up again after the holidays. Do you run through a separate checklist for automated equipment or just stick with the OEM maintenance plan?

It’s smart to think ahead. Powering down completely can risk moisture buildup if the space isn’t stable. A slow, steady ambient temp usually keeps bearings happier through the downtime.

I don’t have a big checklist or anything, but I do give everything a quick clean and oil before the temps drop. Cold metal plus moisture equals bad day. Haven’t decided if I’m keeping mine powered or unplugging yet though.

I stick close to the OEM checklist, but I add my own winter steps because Iowa cold is brutal. I clean the rails, re-lube, crack open a few panels, and check for moisture. I’m not into keeping machines powered 24-7, so I just give everything a controlled start-up every couple of days. Saves me headaches after the holiday break.
