NewlyDraw laser software tips

anyone else running their laser on NewlyDraw? I’m slowly figuring it out, but half the buttons stay greyed out, and I’m struggling to get consistent cuts.
I managed to cut some 1/8" basswood once, but now I’m confused now

my latest attempts only go halfway through the wood. I know it’s just a matter of tweaking the power and speed, but I’m still winging it. if you’re using this software, can you help me figure out these settings?

Quick safety note since you are cutting basswood. If cuts suddenly get weaker, do not just crank power and keep running. Check airflow and exhaust, clean lens and mirrors, and confirm the beam is centered. A misaligned beam or dirty optics can look like a software problem and it can damage parts. Also keep a close watch during cuts, especially in dry February shop air.

hi OP, get a scrap piece of 15mm MDF and set your power to 90% (try to avoid pinning it at 100%) it’ll help your laser tube last way longer!

run some test cuts at different speeds. start at 10, then 20, and so on
check the depth on each one to see what works best for the thickness you're dealing with. it’s worth doing the same speed test for every different material you plan on using, so you've got a solid baseline

If it cut 1/8 basswood once then suddenly only goes halfway, I would check focus and cleanliness before touching settings. Lens and mirrors get dirty fast and cuts get weak. Also make sure your focus height is set to the top surface, not down near the bottom.
